Henry’s 3 week growth spurt is right on time. I was warned that growth spurts could be trying but I never imagined it to be like this. Last night he ate from 5 to 7:30pm then we took a break for bath time, then ate some more until 9pm. I had to wolf down my dinner as quickly as possible while Chris held our fussing/crying baby.
In other news, I found out that I produce too much milk. Some will say “but that’s wonderful!” but it really isn’t. Poor Henry can’t handle the flow which causes him to latch on, then let go, the fuss, then cry, then try and latch on again. And when he let’s go, milk goes flying everywhere like an unmanned fire hose. So combined with the growth spurt that forces your body to produce more milk to accommodate the growth, well it’s been no fun.
Thankfully I have a network of very helpful ladies who are either on mat leave or stay at home moms (I wish there was another term for this since it kind of masks the amount of work involved in staying at home and raising your children). Whether by offering advice or even words of encouragement, it’s nice to know they’re out there. So thank you ladies, you know who you are.
Can you call it “a” growth spurt. Sounds like he is constantly on this growth spurt. Also sounds like he is doing exactly what he is meant to do at this point in his life – gain weight. Cheers Melina!
Did you get the info I forwarded you? Maybe your milk will regulate itself a bit more soon when your body clues into how much it needs to produce.
Do you have a breast pump? Pump the extra and freeze it so you can get a break down the road and chris can feed or you can go out for a couple hours and grandparents will have a stash….
I have one but I’m going to wait until the milk regulates itself before pumping, I’m hoping that will happen by week 6.
François and I were blessed with spending the afternoon with Henry and Melina yesterday. Henry, this new little soul, is indeed in a hurry to grow up. We could not believe the change in him in a week, so the growth spurts are working for him. I know these can be though on maman, but hang in there Melina you are doing great.
Henry has developed interesting sleeping habits at this stage though, where he enjoys taking his longest naps when he is held in someone’s arms. It worked for us, this baby sure knows how to wrap grand-maman and grand-papa around his little finger…
